Grottoes Series: Maijishan Grottoes in Tianshui

Among the historical sites I have visited, Maijishan Grottoes is a very special place. Where is it special? Just look at the guide map. The navigation maps in other places are site plan views, and all the lines and marks are laid out on a two-dimensional plane. And the same way of expression does not work in Maijishan Grottoes. To identify Maijishan Grottoes, an elevation must be used, that is, Maijishan is unfolded in the third dimension.

Mention the ancient ruins built on the cliff face and the steep terrain, people often think of the hanging temple in Shanxi Province, Nanyan Palace in Wudang Mountain, but Maijishan Grottoes are rarely mentioned. However, as I walked along the narrow boardwalks and stairs of the Maijishan Grottoes, I climbed higher and higher, and saw more and more tourists squatting on the ground, holding on to the railings and afraid to move higher, I know that the steepness here Is very special.

Among the four major grottoes in China, the Maijishan Grottoes are very low-key. Now when we come to Gansu Province, most of the thoughts are Mogao Grottoes. Maijishan Grottoes is located in Tianshui. It is a remote town. Before the high-speed rail connects here, it is still very troublesome to go to Tianshui City. In history, Tianshui is a thousand-year-old county. In the era when the Silk Road was accessible, it was an important stop. Therefore, there was the Maijishan Grotto.

The interior of Mogao Grottoes is scarcely visible due to the large number of tourists and the protection of cultural relics. Maijishan Grottoes, because of their particularity, we can clearly see that most of its caves and most of its sculptures are particularly valuable.

Photo Tips

Many small caves are closed with barbed wire doors. Although the statue inside can be seen through the barbed wire, the camera with big lens cannot shoot. But at this time, our mobile phone can be of great use. It can just pass the mesh of the barbed wire, focus carefully, avoid the wire, and it can also take a good effect.

From Lanzhou to Dingxi, and then from Dingxi to Tianshui, sitting on the train, I saw the natural scenery outside the window from barren to vigorous, the color changed from yellow to green. Tianshui, the name of this place is very meaningful, always reminds me of the words "Tian Yi Sheng Shui". It means that water is the source of life.
